The castle was built by the Arabs. First, it was the residence of the delegate of the wali of Siurana, who ruled part of the Ribera d’Ebre and beyond. Later on, it was under the Templar commandery, and it finally passed into the hands of the Hospitallers in 1317, after the dissolution of the Templar order. The castle is dominated by the sentry box, a square-shaped tower.

Archaeological surveys carried out in recent years have revealed different rooms of this impressive castle.

The guided tour will allow the visitor to know the fascinating history of the place and at the same time enjoy the spectacular views from the terrace of the sentry box.

We will finish the visit with a wine tasting offered by the Agrícola Sant Jaume de Benissanet.
